BARRY S. STERNLICHT is Chairman & CEO of Starwood Capital, a private real estate investment firm he formed in 1991, and the Chairman of Starwood Energy which he formed in 2005. For the past 14 years, he has structured more than 300 separate investment transactions with a cost basis of more than $15.9 billion. Today, his firm manages more than $5 billion on behalf of its high net worth and institutional partners and recently completed the investments for its sixth commingled fund.
From 1995 through 2004, Mr. Sternlicht was Chairman & CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., a company he founded in 1995. Mr. Sternlicht is a trustee of Brown University. He serves on the Board of Directors of The Estée Lauder Companies, the National Advisory Board of JP Morgan Chase, and the Advisory Board of Eurohypo Bank. He serves on the boards of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s National Leadership Advocacy Program, Channel 13/WNET, Kids in Crisis, The Harvard Club, the Business Committee for the Arts, and the Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding. He is a member of the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy, the Presidential Tourism & Travel Advisory Board, the Young Presidents Organization, the World Travel & Tourism Council, the Council for the United States and Italy, and the Urban Land Institute.
He received his BA, magna cum laude, with honors from Brown University. He later earned an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.
MADISON F. GROSE is Co-General Counsel of Starwood Capital, and Vice Chairman and Senior Managing Director of Starwood Energy where is currently focuses most of his time. During his thirteen year tenure with Starwood, Mr. Grose led the legal negotiations resulting in Starwood Capital's contribution of its multifamily portfolio to Equity Residential Properties Trust and had principal responsibilities for structuring the firm’s investments in Starwood Hotels, iStar Financial, Inc. and National Golf Properties, Inc.
Mr. Grose led the structuring and underwriting for Starwood Capital's first energy investment, Neptune, a 660 MW undersea power cable that will connect the NJ and Long Island power grids. He served as a Trustee or Director of Starwood Hotels from December 1994 until May 2001 and as a Director of iStar Financial, Inc. from March 1999 until May 2002.
Mr. Grose holds a BS with distinction and highest departmental honors from Stanford University and a JD from UCLA School of Law, where he served as the Chief Comment Editor of the UCLA Law Review.
Bradford Nordholm is CEO and Managing Director of Starwood Energy Group Global, LLC, and in this capacity is responsible for strategic direction, tactical execution and organizational development. Starwood Energy is focused on value-added investing in late-stage solar, transmission and power generation development projects, and the acquisition and restructuring of natural gas-fired power generation and transmission. During his career, Mr. Nordholm has developed, acquired and managed equity investments in power generation, transmission, gas transportation and storage valued in excess of $8B.
Prior to joining Starwood Energy, Mr. Nordholm was Co-Founder and CEO of Tyr Energy, Inc, an award-winning energy asset management firm that managed in excess of 5 GW of generation assets, in addition to serving as Chairman of Tyr Capital, LLC, an investment fund that acquired power generation assets. Previously, Mr. Nordholm was General Manager of Aquila, Inc, where he was responsible for the development, acquisition, management and daily optimization of 3.8 GW of generation, 18 Bcf of gas storage and 12 Bcf/day of gas transportation assets.
Mr. Nordholm received his B.A. in Economics from Carleton College in 1978 and completed the Harvard Business School PMD program in 1989. He currently serves as a director of numerous portfolio companies and on the Kansas City Life Insurance Company (NASDAQ: "KCLI"). He and his wife, Alison, live in Greenwich, CT.
STEVE ZAMINSKI joined Starwood Energy in April of 2005 and is the firm's EVP and Managing Director. Mr. Zaminski has over 15 years of power industry experience and has completed over $8 billion of industry transactions, including $2 billion as a principal. Prior to Starwood, Mr. Zaminski was an investment banker—initially with Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown's Global Energy and Utilities Group followed by McManus & Miles. While a banker, Mr. Zaminski focused on private equity advisory and also led numerous private and public equity and debt offerings, M&A and structured finance transactions. Prior to Deutsche Bank, Mr. Zaminski worked as a management consultant for Vantage Consulting, where he advised Fortune 500 energy industry clients. Mr. Zaminski began his career performing financial analysis and business development services for UltraSystems Development Corporation, an independent power developer now owned by LG&E.
Mr. Zaminski is a frequent industry speaker at Platts, Euromoney, Skadden and Arps, Environmental Protection Agency, Energy Securities Analysis, Inc. and the California Energy Commission. Mr. Zaminski holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland and received an MBA, graduating with honors, from the Wharton School.
JEROME C. SILVEY is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Starwood Capital and Chief Financial Officer of Starwood Energy. He oversees all partnership and property accounting, tax planning and compliance, investor relations, treasury operations and MIS systems, and is a member of Starwood's Executive and Investment Committees. In addition to these responsibilities, he has been responsible for negotiating approximately $8 billion of financings for various Starwood entities.
Mr. Silvey joined Starwood in 1993 after 13 years with Price Waterhouse, where he served a variety of clients including IBM and Olympia & York. Mr. Silvey attended Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, graduating in 1979 with a BA in mathematical economics. In 1980, he earned his MBA from Rutgers Graduate School of Management. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Groupe Taittinger, Societe du Louvre, Baccarat SA, Taittinger Champagne, and the Stamford Museum & Nature Center, as well as a member of the Editorial Board of Institutional Real Estate Investors, the Pension Real Estate Association, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
